The year 2019 is a milestone for Athens-based business Jittery Joe’s.
The locally owned and operated company opened its doors 25 years ago and has since spread the joy of all things coffee around Georgia, Tennessee, and even Japan.
“For 25 years, Athens has been our home. It’s amazing history of community, music and arts is woven in our company’s culture,” says Michael Ripps, President & Co-Owner. “Roastmaster Charlie Mustard has established a national reputation roasting our coffee for the folks of Athens and beyond since our inception, including over 20 classes of graduating UGA students who are now ambassadors for Jittery Joe’s everywhere. We love Athens and can’t wait for the next 25 years.”
With more than 16 locations across Athens, Atlanta and Tennessee, Jittery Joe’s fills a niche with its roasted and microbrewed beverages as well as its baked goods.
The Roaster Tasting Room for a rustic, one-of-a-kind coffee-tasting experience, or stop by one of its locations at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Jittery Joe’s at The Ritz Carlton in Atlanta, or the Jittery Joe’s at Cherokee Pharmacy in Cleveland, Tenn., not to mention several locations on the University of Georgia’s campus. Shoppers can also enjoy Jittery Joe’s in a more modern retail atmosphere at the Epps Bridge location in Athens. No matter where your tastebuds land, Jittery Joe’s lives up to its trademark name.
The success of Jittery Joe’s is owed in part to its original location, next door to Athens 40 Watt Club, according to its website. Upon opening 1994, the coffee shop thrived on 24/7 service and attracted a variety of clientele to enjoy its unique brews.
Today, Jittery Joe’s is an important piece of the patchwork of small businesses and retail owners that define the Athens way of life and culture. Jittery Joe’s takes the art and science of brewing the perfect cup of coffee back to the beginning, roasting the very beans it uses to brew what it serves customers every day.
It must be doing something right.
So let’s celebrate! Grab a cup of your favorite Jittery Joe’s blend, a dark brew like Kindercore Liquid Vinyl or the medium, slightly smoky Freedom of Expression, and cheers to another 25 years of creative coffee brews in the heart of Athens.
