citrus delight
The one item I would race to save from my kitchen in case of a fire is my grandmother's juicer. It's lost most of its paint, the metal peeking through where it shouldn't, but it still gives an impressive squeeze to any citrus fruit caught between its jaws. I believe my grandparents received the Juice King as a wedding gift in 1931. I keep it working instead of buying one of the fabulously shiny, large juicers popular today. The holidays at my house mean citrus fruits galore and a temporary home on the counter for the juicer, which was part of my granmother's kitchen repertoire for most of her 89 years.
