it's all in the glass
Fifty years ago, wine drinkers gave little thought to the glasses
in which their beverage of choice was served. A "wineglass" was
simply a goblet of sorts, the nicer ones made of crystal or etched
glass. Restaurants generally carried a more durable, expendable
plain glass model which held six to eight ounces of red wine, white
wine or water. Sparkling wine was served in a special glass with a
wide-mouthed, shallow bowl.
