July 24 is National Tequila Day. Punch up your bartending prowess with these special recipes direct from Mexico.

The one-of-a-kind wellness program at Grand Velas resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, has a special star: the Wheatgrass Margarita. It combines antioxidants with white tequila and makes for a relaxing health boost. Now, you can make it at home for yourself:

Grand Velas Los Cabos’ Wheatgrass Margarita

  • 1 wheatgrass shot (teaspoon of wheatgrass powder diluted in 2 oz. of water)
  • 1.5 oz. Don Julio blanco or other white tequila
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • .5 oz. agave honey

Combine all ingredients in a shaker, shake and pour over ice.

The resort also makes a number of other delectable margaritas, such as the Horchata Margarita, Hibiscus Margarita and a classic margarita. Get recipes and watch a video on how to construct a margarita at https://magazine.velasresorts.com/fork-knife/cocktail-recipes-you-should-try-at-home/

Gaby’s Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, is mere steps from the Pacific Ocean. It’s known for its cozy environs and authentic Mexican cuisine. Celebrate tequila day with one of the restaurant’s favorite drinks:

Coronarita Margarita with Raicilla

  • 2 oz. racilla (a distilled Mexican spirit similar to tequila)
  • 2 oz. orange liqueur
  • 2 oz. fresh lime juice
    1 bottle of Corona beer
  • Salt

Put in ice cubes, raicilla, lime juice and orange liquor in a shaker and shake vigorously. Salt the rim of a large margarita glass and pour the drink into the glass. Clip a bottle of Corona beer to one side of the glass.

  • .75 oz. orange liqueur
  • .5 oz. lemon juice
  • 4 oz natural or frozen strawberries
  • 1 teaspoon grenadine
  • Ice, to taste

La Adelita Tequila has an impressive portfolio of five premium tequilas (blanco, reposado and three types of anejos). It’s named after Adelita, a woman who fearlessly led female fighters during the Mexican Revolution and is harvested from an estate in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. A favorite recipe from the brand is the Blood Orange Martini.

Le Adelita Blood Orange Martini

  • 2 oz. La Adelita reposado tequila
  • 2 oz, Solerno Blood Orange liqueur
  • 2 oz. lime juice
  • 1 oz. cranberry juice

Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Cover and shake well. Serve in a chilled cocktail glass.
