Saturdays Down South

“And all of Your Children, adorned in Red &
Black silken and bedazzled sequined
accoutrements, arose from their bar stools,
raised a glass that over-runneth with your
delicious golden Brown Licker high into the
morning sky, and hollered,
Goooooooooo
Dawgs! Sic ‘em! Woof! Woof! Woof!”

— Charlie English

Charlie English is a damn good dawg. And now the Cochran, Ga., native can add author to his title.

A University of Georgia alum, English began praying for the Dawgs at tailgates with his fraternity brothers years ago. He began publishing his prayers via social media 12 years ago and the rest is history.

“I honestly can’t believe I now have a book,” English says with a laugh.

A tried and true supporter of the Dawgs, English delivers his poetic prayers on gamedays in the fall. Filled with clever humor and a generous cup of brown liquor his collection of prayers aptly titled, Pregame Prayers and Tailgate Tales: A Damned Good Bulldawg’s Road to Eternal Glory will be released at the end of August.

English, whose literary hero is the late Lewis Grizzzard, is himself becoming part of the time-honored Southern football tradition he so deeply cherishes.
